What is the minimum age to become an EMT? Thanks

depends on state

i know in connecticut the minimum is 16, but i've heard many states require you to be 18. the age also depends on the rank of EMT you want

If you 18 what are the steps and procedures that you have to take to become an EMT?

most technical schools have a program. look into that.

are the technical schools in New York free?

I became an EMT at the age of 16 in massachusetts. In most states including MA, the requirement to become an EMT-B is you must be 18 due to legal liabilities, Our town has a waiver though with the state. In most places you must attend a 150 hour classroom course. Some places require ride time. Once you have completed the classroom course, you have to take a state practical exam and then after that a written one. Hope this helps.

In our state it's 18, plus the person has to have a GED (or graduated from HS) to be admitted. Also, most of the programs vary in length and can be up to two years. I'm not sure what the basic EMT (a program that only takes a couple of semesters) can even do or work - I would think that wouldn't be long enough to be educated to do much of anything, but who knows.

Bottom line - each state varies; check with your local tech school.

Greetings, I am currently a High School Senior. I want to become an EMT/Paramedic before the summer. I heard that inorder to become an EMT-B one needs to take a course in a local community college for about 10 weeks which includes lectures and labs. After that one needs to take an EMT exam before they can get their license. Is this true? I saw the course in about $900. A friend of mine told me that you get your money back after you become an EMT. Is this true? One more thing what does an EMT-B do? How much does an EMT-B make? How long does an EMT-B work in an average day? Does anyone know any places in New York where I can take the course nad take the course at a cheap price?

O.O You mean EMT classes cost money? It's free if you join the first aid squad where I live. I think there's commitment involved, though.

In order to become a paramedic most places want you to become an EMT-B first and work in the field for about 1-2 years as a basic. The paramedic is a Long course and in some places can take up to 2 college years. Most likly the money you are paying for the class will not go back to you, this is for your education.
