How old is a freshman?

What is the average age of a freshman in college?

18 is considered "the norm" in the US. If you factor in the increasing population of nontraditional students, the average is probably somewhat higher.

So it would be ok to be 19?

My brother's a 19-year-old freshman. As far as I know, nobody has said anything about it, so it's likely that no one cares. :P

18 or 19 is the norm coming straight from high school, though with more kids taking a gap year, there are some freshmen who are 20 or older

18.

Normally 19 for internationals with 13 years of schooling.

I am 18 and I am a freshman but most of the kids I have met are 19.... Weird.

Most kids start off freshman year at 18, but turn 19 before they start sophomore year

A lot of kids start off freshman year at 17 (those with fall & early winter birthdays); many start at 18 or 19. Kids who take a "gap year" or defer admissions start at 19 or 20.

Most school districts around here have a cutoff of Aug 31 to enter school, and parents of kids born in the summer, especially boys, keep them out a year more. So there are a lot of kids who will be 19 before they hit college.

i have a friend who skipped a grade and is a 15 year old junior she will be 1 17 year old freshmen, 18 year old sophmore, etc . . .

why does it matter how old you are?

I'll be 17 (skipped a grade)

My goodness. Anyone between 17 and 20 is likely to do just fine in a typical freshman situation (freshman dorm, freshman classes). If you are under 17 or over 20 you might feel somewhat uncomfortable in an all-freshman dorm. At my undergrad college, some of us freshmen were in a dorm with about a dozen law students from out of state who had chosen to live in a dorm; anyone between 17 and 27 would have been fine, and had like-aged friends, on my freshman floor. At the beginning of the year, my two roommates and I were 18, 18 and 19; by the end of the year, 19, 19, and 20. (One had transferred in after a year spent elsewhere.)

I will be 17 when I enter college, but will turn 18 in October.

And if you go to a large university you will find freshman of all ages. It doesn't denote an age, only that it is your first year of college.

I am 16 when i was a freshman college student…

Because they want to know? It’s just a question.
