Expanding on the title, would omitting them be seen as if the applicant is "hiding" something shameful. I did get an AP award, but I just simply don't want to share my AP scores because I don't think they're exactly stellar.

We want to see AP scores if you have taken them. An obmission of scores would be noted.

Do note that a low score does not automatically lessen your chances for admission. Our focus is more on your performance in the class, rather than the score on the exam. If you did well in the class but just a low score on the AP exam, the final grade in the class will play the more important role in the evaluation.

Simple answer though -- include your AP scores.

I'm sorry if this was answered elsewhere, but where do you include your AP scores? Should they just be written in as part of the additional information section of the Common App or does an official copy of the scores need to be sent to JHU by the due date for the application? Thanks.

If you are applying with the JHU application then there is a place to include AP scores. If you are applying with the Common Application then you can include AP scores in the additional information section.

Official copies only need to be sent after your are admitted and choose to enroll. If you want to receive credit for AP scores, then you will need to have your AP scores sent to the Academic Advising offices.

Thanks AdmissionsDaniel, I'll go ahead and include my AP scores....After thinking about it, getting a bad score on the AP Exam, yet still persisting on majoring in that subject (for me, history) shows perseverance IMHO.

I have another question though, which isn't exactly relevant, but here it goes:
For students that don't want to show their race, I understand that there is an option to omit your ethnicity on the App. My question is: What other admissions materials that JHU receives have the race listed on them (for example, transcript, SAT reports, etc...)

As far as where the "race" question appears on application materials -- there is the optional question on the application that any student can leave blank. I do believe there is an area on standardized test reports where race (ethnic group?) is included, and this would be filled in if you answered that question during registration. As for school documentation (transcripts, school reports), whether race is included varies from school to school, so you need to check with your guidance counselor.

For our database, we track race in one of two ways. What ever you put on the application is used as a primary basis for race. Applicants may apply and leave the race question blank, but previously when completing a request for information they may have answered the race question. If that is so, we will use that information that we tracked when the student was a prospect.

We do not predict race by last name though -- we only track race that was reported by the student through a prospect record or application.
