My D is a rising senior and is focused on Cal and UCLA. Her grades are pretty strong and her SAT scores are at the mean. Her subject test scores though were just okay (650ish). My initial thought is, since these scores are optional, to not have my D send them in. Will this be viewed negatively? Thoughts?

I can’t imagine why you would include them if they are not required, unless they are outstanding and will assist her in admissions.

I asked your question of admissions officer. The response was that if student is applying to engineering, UCLA/Cal recommends taking Math Level 2 SAT 2 + a second SAT 2 in one of the science subject areas (e.g. Physics, Chemistry, Biology). If student is not applying to engineering, SAT 2’s are not needed. Good luck to your daughter!
