How optional is p.217 and other matters...

So, I applied ED but didn't submit the p.217 essay. Did I shoot myself in the foot by not doing it? (Has anyone on CC gotten in ED without the p.217)? I know it says "truly", but...

It sounds like the ED competition will be tougher this year than in the last few: according to DP, more applicants with higher scores...Some days I'm really optimistic about getting in, other days (like today) I think it's a pipe dream. Others?

Last but not least, has anyone come across anything about how many or what percentage of the ED applicants are CAS applicants? I read on here (think it was a posting by aluminum boat) that about 2200ish of last year's number were CAS ED applicants...is this just a guess?

Good luck everyone...getting through the next week is going to be hard...

You didn’t shoot yourself in the foot for not doing it, it just would have been more helpful to you if you did. If your stats, ECs, and essays are all decent, then you should still have a fair shot. The pg217 essay is just a method to show Penn another unique side of you that you maybe couldn’t convey through your common app and Why Penn essay.
