How plausible is it to transfer after one semester at a college?

Currently, I'm an entering freshman to CUNY Hunter College and I really want to apply to a new school after just one semester there. Some schools I was looking at are Ithaca College, SUNY Geneseo, SUNY Binghamton, Chapman College, and Loyola Marymount. Also, what are "semester hours"? Is that the equivalence of credits? Does 30 semester hours = 30 credits? im confused

My HS stats:
Weighted average:87.2
I think unweighted would be 85? My school doesn't calculate unweighted average

SATs: reading-670, math-710, writing 670 TOTAL 2050
ACT: composite-29 (i don't remember the breakdown)
SAT 2 Math II: 760
SAT 2 Literature: 620

APs:
AP Physics B: 3
AP Calculus BC: 2
AP Physics C (E&M): 2
AP Physics C (Mechanics):3
I know they're awful, I dont plan on sending these in, but these are my high school AP classes.

Extracurriculars:
Cheerleading (Sophomore year)
Step Team (Junior Year)
Part Time Tutoring Job (Sophomore and Junior year)
Volunteer Tutoring (50 hours, Senior Year)

If I manage to get above a 3.75 gpa in college, what are my chances of successfully transferring out within a semester? I'm even taking a summer class to earn three credits asap, but i think that would be the only grade the colleges would see. So...if i get an A+ in this summer class I'm taking, and manage to keep up the good grades during my first semester, will I be able to do it? Please help!! :(

You are in the same exact situation as I, except I have lower SAT scores. I want to get into Binghamton too  I also am going to hunter btw

GL!

There are colleges who accept sophomore transfers (applying during freshman year of college).

I think for the privates, how much you can actually pay for college will affect admissions. LMU is probably a match if you don’t need much institutional aid. Chapman is probably a slight-reach but again, if you don’t need institutional aid (grants/scholarships the college itself gives out to ease the cost of attendance) then that chance goes up.

What is your EFC? I’m not saying that LMU or Chapman might not give you a great financial aid package with some institutional aid - but it is more likely these days that a transfer student needs to be able to cover that which the student loans do not.

awwwww my EFC is 0 =\ my mom’s a single parent and an immigrant so we really don’t have much money

would i receive a decent aid package from the SUNY’s though? like would it be the same as if I had applied as a first year incoming student?

Judging by your situation I would suggest that you stay at Hunter for a year or 2 and earn some credits for cheap. With NYC TAP and Fin Aid you shouldn’t have a problem with tuition. Also, you may recieve a $500 book voucher.

You didn’t apply for any scholarships when you were in HS?

No, you cannot transfer out after one semester. You won’t have your grades on your transcript when you apply. Also, your HS GPA, ACT/SAT scores, AP will be weighed heavily because it’s just one semester of college work.

Binghamton-spring deadline is Nov 15
Geneseo-spring deadline is Oct 15
Ithaca College-spring deadline is Nov 1
Chapman-spring deadline is Nov 1
Loyola Marymount-spring deadline Nov 1

You may qualify for the SUNY EOP program: http://www.suny.edu/student/academic_eop.cfm

^Agreed. First, you won’t have 30 credit hours in time to apply for spring semester and you stats just don’t seem high enough for regular admissions at Binghamton or Geneseo.

I believe for EOP to apply to transfer students they MUST have been enrolled in an opportunity program - EOP (SUNY schools), HEOP (private schools), or SEEK/College Discovery (CUNY schools) - at their former college, unless the school doesn’t participate (which doesn’t seem to apply to the OP since Hunter is a participant).

yeah i dont think that i can apply EOP anymore since im not in EOP right now. and what are credit hours? or semester hours? are they the same thing? im really confused cause i’ll see these requirements on college’s transfer site and have no idea what they mean by that. does 15 credit hours = 15 credits?
