I have heard both that it is generally conservative and that political activism isn't very prevalent in student life. I just wanted to know: Is this just a generalization? Thanks.

The majority of the student body appears to be moderate-liberal (according to how people self report themselves on facebook, at least), but no one really cares.

Really? From what I read everywhere (Including CC), the majority of students appear to be conservative.

More conservative that other top universities, but still liberal. Most students are liberal and the vast majority of profs are liberal. The student body isn't what you'd call "activist," though, which I like.

I would say it's very balanced. While universities as a whole are very liberal, UVA is a bit more middle-of-the-road. I would say there's a higher conservative presence than at other top universities, but certainly nowhere near the likes of Notre Dame, W&L, etc.

"Balance" is a good word, semiserious. While many top universities have environments where non-liberal viewpoints are almost demonized, UVA seems to provide a comfortable place for people with a large range of opinions and viewpoints.

yea, the balance does not encourage groupthinking.

uva student body is not activist as a whole. If you ask me about my political view, I would say: "moderation is the key, whatever, i don't f*****g care."

"I would say there's a higher conservative presence than at other top universities, but certainly nowhere near the likes of ND, W&L.."

Not true. I know W&L is more liberal than is UVA. My roommate's twin brother goes there.

"Not true. I know W&L is more liberal than is UVA."

biggest lie ever. :)

I believe most UVA students are moderately liberal, but the prevailing ideology is more like apathy.

W&M leans Democratic, while W&L is Republican.

Untilted, why don't you ask Paul Gottschling?

Probably because he goes to W&M, not W&L.

Oh Washington and Lee. My bad. I don't really memorize all these abbreviations of virginian schools in my head. bo_bombers you're such a stalker on facebook. lol. jk. :p

It's politically charged in another way. I heard that someone who got a recommendation from the governor was admitted.

I'm not a facebook stalker, I'm his friend genius.

Well good on you :)

not as much as William and Mary. . . that's prob a good thing.
