How politically correct are YOU?!

you mean like "Prom King/Queen" and stuff like that?
Please don't tell me your school is having "Prom King/King" now...

Lol, a guy at my school ran for Prom Queen last year. They denied him though and he was prissy about it.

I also say "sexual orientation" but I always here "sexual preference" which I think is wrong because sexuality is linked to the "nature" side of the nature v. nurture argument.

Actually, it usually bothers me when people say "sexual preference." But then I get over it because it's usually not meant to be derogatory. Now, if someone were to use some obviously derogatory name to describe us (e.g. the other "f" word, "dy**" then I'd be angry.

I'm a strong believer that PC should only be applied to HOW you say it and in what context. Sarah Silverman, for example, says the "n" word all the time and it's funny and meant to be satire and is obviously CAREFULLY chosen, and I think her use of slurs is actually quite acceptable.

Or Asian. Asian has several different races. I refuse to believe that the dark skinned Indians are the same race as the light skinned Chinese or the many brown south east Asians.

[/quote]

Actually, that's kind of the problem with our definition of "Asian." Think about how many races are included in Asian- Indians, Pakistanis, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Laos people (I'm not sure what the adjective is), Cambodians, and the list goes on and on, and we haven't even touched on "Pacific Islanders."

I'm much more for calling those by their nationality. If you're Indian, then you're Indian. If you're Chinese, then you're Chinese, but we should have an umbrella term for it all under "Asian," much how if one says he is "European," then he could be Finnish, French, British, Russian, etc. The Swedish, for example, are also much fairer than Italians or French, so you can definitely have variations.

But nationality still isn't the same as race.

I'm American and so are the kids at my school, but we aren't all of the same race.

But even so, nationality would still beat the current system.

Ha ha. I just think that the term "Asian/ Pacific Islander" is a stupid term. Let's at least have two terms: Asian AND Pacific Islander.

Speaking of that, I never get where Hawaiians are placed. Native Americans? Pacific Islander?

Under a nationality system, Hawaiians wouldn't even be called 'hawaiian.' They'd just be American (United States).

I've read about people that live in Hawaii referring to the natives of Hawaii as Hawaiians, but not themselves.
