how predictable are georgetown admisssions?

do people with the required stats, good essays, etc, usually get in, or is more uncertain like the ivies.

endlessly unpredictable.

slightly more predictable than the ivies. i’d put it on a level with UCLA/cal

ETA: although on an overall more difficult level of acceptance than ucla or berkeley, it may be equally [un]predictable

i think using the word predictable and admissions in the same sentence is funny no matter what school you are talking about, especially selective ones. I had a friend rejected from Cal Poly (an in state safety for many californians) and accepted to UCLA.

yepp…no college admissions are predictable…i have a friend who got rejected by NYU but got into Stanford…go figure…

i think that the UC’s are possibly more unpredictable because they have SO MANY applicants (over 57,000 this year). Some of my best friends with virtually the same stats, recommendations, EC’s, and essay qualities came out with different decisions.

hec, which cal poly? that is VERY strange. i had a friend rejected from ucla and accepted to slo, which is the much more expected circumstance. how odd.

Keep in mind that what seems arbitrary to us may make perfect sense within the admissions room. We don’t know what their essays look like, what their rec letter said, or how their interview went. Th admissions committee [generally] has a good reason for every decision they make.

For some quantitative analysis though, we can turn to the [CC stats profiles](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/profiles/index.html)! After looking through the class of '07 (class of '11), here are the averages

I threw out those whose status was still will apply/pending, since they don’t provide any meaningful results. and you can make your own judgement as to how to weight the deferred applicants. For GPA I’ll only average those who reported something on a 4.0 scale. I’m not including SAT Writing since Georgetown doesn’t look at it, and hence we shouldn’t expect it to be predictable anyway

Accepted & Will attend (29):
SAT CR: 749
SAT M: 759
GPA (UW): 3.92

Deferred (6, note the low sample size):
SAT CR: 698
SAT M: 683
GPA (UW): 4.01 (impossible, someone lied about their GPA or doesn’t understand what unweighted means)

Waitlisted (8, again, small sample):
SAT CR: 759
SAT M: 745
GPA (UW): 3.90

Rejected (14):
SAT CR: 720
SAT M: 695
GPA (UW): 3.74

so comparing straight across accepted & rejected, things don’t seem entirely unreasonable (as well as you can determine from averages anyway). Those waitlisted however, look really close to accepted.

it was Cal Poly SLO. She was freaking out until she heard from UCLA. We think they may have confused something becuase you are right. that is very strange.

hmmm absolutely strange…i just wish that they wud hurry up!

Extremely unpredictable. In my alumni interview, the interviewer told me that he thought the admissions process was whack. haha. (he also told me that he would work to get me accepted…and that didn’t really work out).

^wow… i totally forgot to ask my interviewer abt the admissions process…am so stupid!

Kind of off topic, but i hear some some safety-level schools reject good candidates because they don’t think they’ll actually enroll there…admissions are crazy.

When we did our campus tour, the tour guide had transferred to G-town. D’s alumni interviewer had also transferred to G-town. We have another friend who transferred. I guess there is always hope for a transfer if not accepted the first time around. I am expecting a waitlist decision to arrive tomorrow.

hey…you are optimistic…I am expecting a rejection. haha. I was thinking about maybe attending GW and trasfering to Gtown…my friend at gtown told me that a lot of people do it.

Admission this year is definitely arbitrary. My friend got in with SAT 400ish CR, 600 writing and 700+Math. He had nearly no activities either inside or outside of the school. no awards whatsoever. His GPA is average (3.9unweighted all honor classes, no APs). But despite all that he got in as an international student, and applied as regular.

^^There has to be something else going on here. Was he by any chance a 7ft tall basketball player from Africa? :)

lollolol 10char

Bubbletea has posted the same thing in several places, and my guess is, its just ■■■■■■■■ for fun and giggles.

I’m deadly serious. I have no intention or interest of joking around and make u guys giggling over something that is not even funny. It is shocking that Georgetown made such unfair decision to reject qualified students while accepting those far less qualified ones this year. And as for now I’m still having a hard time of accepting my friend’s acceptance.
