How predictive is the PLAN to actual performance on the ACT? I just reviewed my son's, which gave a range of 27-30; he scored a 32. What have been other experiences?

I scored a 26 as a sophmore my estimated range was around 27-31 for the end of my junior year; yet, a month later I scored a 30 on the ACT.

your son scored a 32 on the PLAN? just wow...

Has the scoring on the PLAN changed? Three years ago when my oldest took it a 32 was the highest possible score! If that's still true then I don't understand the 27-30 range. But in any case that's a great score.

i think ur wrong. a score of 32 (perfect score) should have given him a predicted ACT score range of 33-36, i am almost positive.

anyways, i got 31 on PLAN, predicted range: 33-35. Got a 35 four months later.

Sorry for the confusion: the Plan predicted a range of 27-32, he got a 32 on the ACT lasy year. My twin daughters just got their plan results and I am trying to gauge what their eventual ACT will be based on my son's and other's experience between the PLAN expected range on the ACT, and the acutal ACT score achieved.

on the PLAN it should say their predicted score range, that does not factor in studying, have them study, and that score should improve

Yes, I am aware of the predicted range. My question is really focused on what results people have seen vis-a-vis that predictive range.

LOL. Keep trying concerneddad, they'll get it eventually. Herding cats.

whew! Thanks curmudgeon. I thought it was all me!

well, as I said, it is an accurate assessment of what they will get without any further preperation

Based on my son's PLAN and ACT score, he actually scored higher than predicted. Of course it was 2 years later and he actually cared about the ACT, but I think it would be common for the score to go up (several points), but rare for it to go down. Of course, any tester on any day can be sick or tired or can just mess up, but I'd look for a rising score.

This is probably not that helpful, and certainly not directly OT, but you might find it interesting as to the predictive qualities of the testmakers. D took the PSAT cold as a freshman and scored 186, math 68,verbal or cr 58, writing 60. Predicted SAT 1260 (had she been a jr.) . She took the PLAN as a soph and scored a 27 composite with a predicted range of 28-32 which I believe roughly translates to 1240-1445 on the SAT. This year D took the PSAT as a junior with maybe 10 hours of prep- in total. Ever. She scored a 210 index with a 76 math, 67 on both CR and writing. Predicted range SAT 1310-1500, or predicted score 1430. It appears she keeps creeping up. Does that help at all?

yes, thanks

I got a range of 27-31 when I took it sophomore year, and scored a 32 at the end of the year. I actually prepped hard for one a few months ago and managed a 35.
