I’ve studied Spanish for 4 years in school and can’t take a class next year but am planning on doing a study hall with my previous Spanish teacher, so I feel I’m fairly decent at it but don’t know if I should add it to the app. I know for sure I’m not completely fluent, I still kinda struggle conversationally and have to translate in my head, but I can read/write semi decently. Would I be able to say I’m “proficient” at that point or should I just not add that since they’ll see I’ve taken the courses?
I would say if you’ve taken a recognized fluency test (for German it’s the Sprachdiplom) you could add it. If you think you’re good enough, try to see if you can take the Spanish equivalent. If not, I think your coursework will be able to highlight this enough.
I would list the courses you took and that will speak for itself.
The language question is for heritage speakers r or tudents who know languages for other reasons (expats, third culture kids, missionaries…) rather than coursework, which appears in another section.
If you could do your college interview in Spanish then put it. If not, don’t.
Agreed; that’s the benchmark I would use.
