How quickly do courses generally fill up?

I'm an incoming freshman in A&S so my enrollment period opened yesterday, but I'm still figuring out my schedule...and I'm kind of panicking about getting into classes. I know I should have decided everything earlier, but I was being really indecisive :(

what are you majoring in?

same, kind of…I’m in Human Ecology and my window opens the 14th. Help us please!

i’m sure you’ve already heard about this, but…
Schedulizer

I hate to say this, but it depends on what classes you are talking about. Communication classes tend to be small and quickly filled (and they have some extra requirements that they don’t state on the web).

I don’t know about Chem or Bio since I don’t have to take it or I already got the credit that I needed.

Use http://cornell.schedulizer.com/</a> to help you manage your schedule, but remember to double check it with the student center since the schedulizer is not always up-to-date.

pick w/e you want to take up a spot and change later if you have to. some classes fill up really fast, some don’t. large classes like orgo, chem etc fill up rarely ever. other classes, especially as you move up, fill up pretty fast

kind of off topic but i successfully enrolled in AEM 2500 (environmental and resource economics) yesterday and i’m an econ major in CAS. i thought courses in other colleges open up only on the 14th???

Generally, general courses do not fill up as quickly as courses generally tend to do.

@TP971011: The adding classes process will open up again starting on August 24(?) while some people are still shopping for the classes.

@fri3nds04 - i meant that i thought non-CAS classes would be open for pre-enrollment starting on july 14th, but the student center let me add an AEM class which is in CALS

When you have your enrollment time, you can add any class that you want  I haven’t heard anything about you can only add classes from a specific college during your (pre-)enrollment time

err well in the email i got it says “From July 7 through July 13, A&S students have sole access to enrolling in the courses offered by this college. Starting July 14, you and all other new students entering any of the seven undergraduate colleges will be able to add courses offered by any of the colleges at Cornell. This continues until July 23, but after that date, the enrollment system will close temporarily and will reopen for enrollment on Tuesday, August 24 during on-campus Orientation.”

that’s why i thought it was odd that i could add a course in CALS. i hope nothing is wrong with a freshman econ major taking AEM 2500 (seeking to transfer to AEM - it’s a transfer requirement)

So it says:

which means that you can add classes from ANY colleges at Cornell starting from July 14th to July 23rd :)

But I see your point about adding CALS classes when it’s not even July 14th. Think of it as you are lucky that you can get a guaranteed seat in the class before anyone else :)

it seems that the restriction is in the other direction - it’s not that you can only enroll in CAS classes and no other classes, it’s that only you CAS students can enroll in CAS classes. an AAP or CALS student could not enroll in a CAS class. maybe it is implied that this message is equally applicable to every college, in which case your assumption is correct, but that’s not necessarily the case.
