There are a lot of interesting poli sci upper division courses that I'd like to take, but I read on the poli sci department site that you can only sign up for them during phase 2 if you're not declared. I'll be declaring at the end of this semester... But I guess that's not in time for Telebears.

Will I be able to phase 2 something like PS 106A (Campaign Strategies)? Or should I just fill out my schedule with breadths or requirements for my other major?

It’s pretty hard to get a PS class in phase two. I think there were only two available in phase two this semester–Latino Politics and Japanese Politics.

Dan Schnur’s class always fills up on the first day of phase one. By the second day it will have a full wait list too. Typically only seniors and those with early registration can get in.

I’m sure you could get into at least one poli sci course if you check the schedule of classes constantly and phase II a relatively “less-full” one. A lot of my friends did the same thing, but they didn’t get in until like the 3rd or 4th week of classes.

Okay, thanks for the info. I might just have to wait on starting poli sci upper division classes until after I’m officially declared… I guess I’ll look for other classes to take in the meantime.

Sorry, another question:
Do other departments typically keep non-majors out until phase 2 for upper divs? Thinking about taking a history class but of course, upper divs look way more interesting than the lower courses.

advice: talk to your adviser and try to get him/her to slither you into the class through the back door or something. adviser’s are cool like that.
