Essays:
My main concern: Common app was about a completely unrelated thing that wasn’t even academic. However I think it was solid (not like amazing though) and showed who i am extremely well. One of our family friends has a friend who is an essay consultant from Harvard and she said it was amazing
My Northwestern supplement is good also- very specific and showed why i wanna do economics. it also ties into my volunteering ECs.
My UCs were average i guess?

Letter of Recs:

  • Good, maybe great. I really haven’t asked or checked but I’ve been pretty close with these teachers and they are the sponsors of my clubs.

@Gumbymom how would my chances be at UC berkeley/UCLA? i didnt get anything below an A in my 14 classes i took in in 10th-11th grade. i took 8 AP classes and 1 dual credit class

Parents are willing to pay the costs of each school?

@ucbalumnus yep

You are a very well-rounded student and have very impressive ECs and GPA/SAT. Here’s what schools I think you will be either accepted, waitlisted, or rejected:

Northwestern: Waitlisted
Berkeley: Accepted
Washington University: Accepted
Vanderbilt: Accepted
NYU: Accepted
USC: Accepted

*Do very well on your essays and I think you have a very good chance. Good Luck!!!

@ethanurban9 this is encouraging to hear. thank you

i’m not sure whether northwestern ED has a waitlist though? i really hope i get in haha it’s the perfect school for me

help?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1903428-faq-uc-historical-frosh-admit-rates-by-hs-gpa.html

2015 applicants with UC weighted-capped GPA >= 4.20 had 46% admit rate at UCB and 53% admit rate at UCLA.

@ucbalumnus do you know whether biz econ at UCLA and/or econ at Cal are capped/impacted/majors or majors that are harder to get into?

UCB economics is a capped major, but is within the L&S division where all admits enter undeclared. The selective admission to the economics major is after completing the college prerequisites; currently, a 3.0 college GPA in the prerequisite courses is required to enter the major.

@ucbalumnus ohh okay! so if i applied as an econ major, what does admissions see? what are the impacts of that?

@RMNiMiTz, It doesn’t matter where OP goes to high school. This board is called College Confidential for a reason. Please stay on topic.
