It's been a long time since I was a college student. Would it be possible for a undergrad student to commute from the Toledo area - about an hour drive in decent weather/traffic?

It’s possible, but it’s certainly not desirable. You would be most likely on campus 4-5 days a week. 10 hours each week commuting to college is a lot. It really depends on how much you value your time and money. Parking isn’t the best in Ann Arbor.

I live just 30 minutes away from Ann Arbor and was strong advised to not commute. I looked into it to save money. However it is simply impractical on various levels. I would find the most dangerous aspect of commuting would be the icy winters and lack of lights on the freeway to Ann Arbor. I would be very worried about getting in a car wreck with all of that extra time on the road.

Agree with Miw. Possible but not desirable. The campus life at U-M is a huge part of the experience and it is difficult to do for a commuter student. If the cost of living on campus is out of the question then the question is what is the alternative to commuting to U-M.

It’s possible, but don’t do it. It will be hell

It will be pretty much the same as other commute student by driving. Toledo is around 30-40min away. Once you drive, there is little difference if it is 5min or 50min. Parking is the problem.
