How reliable is DoDMERB to check up on your application status?

I received:
-LOA from West Point dated 18 September.
-Medical Waiver from West Point dated 10 October.
-Nothing else in the way of an offer.

My USNA application possibly went before the board this last Thursday, 15 November. My USMMA application is missing one part. USMA says that iff I receive my nomination and when they receive my fall semester grades, they'll send the appointment.

On DoDMERB, it says the following:
-USMA, Admission Status: In Process, Admission Status Change Date: 25-JUN-2007, Current Medical Status: Medical waiver granted (as of 10-OCT-07)
-USNA, Admission Status: Offer Extended, Admission Status Change Date: 19-NOV-2007, Current Medical Status: Pending Waiver Submission/Review (as of 10-OCT-07)
-USMMA, Admission Status: Offer Extended, Admission Status Change Date: 11-SEP-2007, Current Medical Status: Medical waiver denied (as of 10-OCT-07)

I certainly haven't received anything from USMMA. Did they perhaps put my USMA Admissions information in the USMMA boxes? Does 'Offer Extended' mean LOA? I don't have my nomination yet...

I'm just curious about what the USNA Offer Extended means...hehehe :)

Yes, "offer extended" will show up as soon as a candidate has an LOA (in the section for one of the SAs), or if they have a scholarship offer for ROTC.

I guess it just threw me for a loop because I haven't received ANYTHING from USMMA in the last two months, but, like hershey, I've gotten an LOA from USMA with no update.

This is exciting; I just checked DoDMERB and USMA says "in process" (son has LOA and Nom), but USNA says "offer extended" and where it says "sub agency" it says NALOA...which I hope means Navy LOA? If this is an LOA, I hope it comes before the congressman makes his slate to sway them just a bit!

See you at I-Day.
We have a Yahoogroups set up for 2012 parents. We are going to plan a decompression party for after I-Day in Annapolis. check it out, it is a work in progress. We will post pictures, have other informational items as well.

I did call USNA to confirm (in case anyone else likes to double, and triple check!). I was told "congratulations!" Son is faced now with some amazing choices. Fingers and toes crossed for nomination...and phone call made to MOC this A.M. to give them a "heads up."

The website seems to have changed from last year - I got curious about this and went to the fridge and looked at the printout of my daughter's medical waiver on the DoDMERB site - yes I screen printed the page and posted it on the fridge (it was a happy day!)

My daughter applied to 3 SA's and AROTC last year - was offered at AROTC scholarship - she is reapplying to USMA.

There was not a row declaring Admission status last year.

This year under each agency it says: Agency:/b
**Admission status:/b
**Admission Status change date: AROTC - 4/13/07, USMA - 8/2/07, USNA - 3/23/07, USCGA 9/26/07 (date application was added) Current Medical Status:OTC and USMA both say Medical waiver granted 8/7/07 (this date was updated since last spring), USNA and USCGA both say pending waiver- submission review 8/7/07.

Clearly what is new from last year is the Admission status and the Admission status date change.
It appears from this and what other posters on this and other forums are saying that the Naval Academy is updating the Admission status at the speed of light. While this efficiency is remarkable in government - kids seem to be finding out their admission status - offered, or LOA from the DoDMERB website and not from admissions directly.
I understand this is coming directly from admissions and not DoDMERB and I wonder if admissions is aware of this.
Look ahead to next spring when rejections start going out - from the DoDMERB website my daughter got her rejection from USNA on 3/23 but didn't get her letter until mid-April.

IMO - kids should not be finding out their admissions status from the DoDMERB website but that is what is happening.

Apparantly USMMA is also updating dodmerb at the "speed of light" - and candidates are finding out admissions decisions from there as well.

updates I have found are sporatic and they rely on a person at dodmerb to place them into the system. A individual persons workload at dodmerb can vary greatly at times and the updates are put in as soon as possible. Spent a lot of time on the phone with a HMCM and he was very open about the process and the system and how to help. I think each individual situation is unique. No great differences as to who updates how quickly over other SA's. As to the upgrades, the website is a big improvement and the information is very good.

^^^^^
West Point and Army ROTC are not updating the admission's status with DODMERB as quickly as the other programs. My daughter's LOA with West Point was never listed on the website and her Army ROTC offer is not listed; she is listed as an Alternate for AROTC. My daughter's admission status for West Point changed to "Offer Extended" after she received an appointment.

BAE Systems added the admissions status field to the DODMERB website this past year when they revamped the system.

Yeah I found out I got my NROTC scholarship from DODMERB.

My BGO said I am "double cued", meaning I am qualified from both a medical and admissions standpoint. He said I may or may not get an LOA. But he said my status changed last Thursday, and DODMERB still says "In Process."

So I assume this means I am not going to get an LOA and I'm just in the regular candidate pool?

The "Admission Status" is information provided by the academy. The program is responsible for Admission Status changes on the DoDMERB website. This information comes from the academies and ROTC.

My point is that - regardless of who makes the change in the website - the candidate deserves to be advised of admission status changes via the admissions department (or their MOC) rather than the DoDMERB website.

An MOC should not be making a phone call to advise a kid of an appointment only to have the kid tell him that he already knows via the DoDMERB website.

Likewise with rejections - candidates deserve to find out from admissions.

The USNA (and USMMA) needs to slow down the process of information to DoDMERB. West Point and AROTC (and AFA from what I hear) seem to have it right.

...Likewise with rejections - candidates deserve to find out from admissions.

I don't think finding out via DODMERB is any less deserving.

Perhaps it's not as "prestigious" as getting a call from Senator Blahblah, but "prestige" is not the goal.

Yes, it's different from how it was done in the past, but different is not always worse, nor is it always better.

It's just different.

I can't really see what difference it makes.

Maybe it does to the parents, who are imagining a 21-Gun Salute and Trumpet Voluntary to accompany the mailman, but I don't think it matters much to the candidates. Maybe the "rejected" candidate would want to delay the notification, but I think that an "accepted" candidate would want to know as soon as possible.

The outcome is the same either way, and IMO "sooner" is better than "later."

hello my daughter's DODMERB status is "Pending Waiver/Submission Review" for USNA, and she has a couple items listed pertaining to eyesight and mild eczema (found out after the fact that she should not have listed eczema since most recent case was prior to high school, unfortunate but she learned from it)....our question---will the academy notify her and/or DODMERB of when she should schedule a remedial doctor's appointment to clarify or dismiss either item? She understands that DODMERB is one of the most grueling processes in her application and will not let this stand in her way. Any input/past experience dealing with upping academy waiver chances/DODMERB would be greatly appreciated :)

.....will the academy notify her and/or DODMERB of when she should schedule a remedial doctor's appointment to clarify or dismiss either item?

Do the items listed begin with "R" or "D" code?

An "R" is a remedial where DoDMERB will request more information, sometimes a doctor appointment is necessary for more tests, sometimes they just want medical records. They will send a letter to her asking for any information they need to make a final decision.

A "D" is a disqualification.

If you feel that the DQ is incorrect, you can submit paperwork (medical records, letters from your doctors) and a statement from your daughter explaining how the condition affects her or how it does not affect her. They will then determine if your rebuttal evidence is enough to remove the DQ or keep it.

If you know that the DQ item is correct, then you need to hope for a waiver. USNA automatically considers every competitive candidate for a waiver. The USNA Admissions Department will contact you if there are additional requirements for the waiver process.
