Pepperdine is an amazing school, in an amazing location that I really like, but how religious is the school?
I understand that they're Christian, but are religion classes a requirement? I know Princeton Review has ranked them #15 in having the most religious students, but rankings don't mean that much to me. I'm also not religious, so I'd prefer not to go to a religious school, but Pepperdine is so good.

Any comments?

im pretty sure religious classes are required but i know for a fact you have to attend convocation once a week i believe

Getting through the application, especially the essays, will be tricky if you are not at all "religious".Their admission rate is surprisingly low given the average "stats". This together with the admitted students reception suggested to me that they know what they want, and students should be equally clear. Of course, that's as far as our family went, so I hope current students will chume in. I seem to remember some fairly flexible religious curriculum and ways of meeting the convocation requirements.

Hey Brianna! Your from Vacaville ! I guess you don't go to VCS.....

I'm a current student and in my opinion Pepperdine is as religious as you want it to be. I know a lot of people who are involved with various church-related activities on campus but I also know tons of people who aren't religious at all. Basically, if you aren't that religious there are plenty of other options for extracurriculars and you definitely won't be alone. It's true that everyone has to take religion classes, but they take more of a historical approach to the bible and Christian beliefs. Also, everyone has to attend 14 convocation sessions per semester (if you want to get an A in convocation, that is) but many different things count towards this credit. Most of them are guest speakers (for example this semester we had people like Tom Shadyac, who directed Bruce Almighty, and a survivor of the Rwandan genocide) but there are also sessions on things like unwanted pregnancy with little to no religious content. Of course, Pepperdine definitely has a more religious atmosphere than many other colleges but I haven't found it to be oppressive (and I don't consider myself to be all that religious).
