I would consider myself a great student. My school is a very small and challenging high school that sends out kids to some pretty great schools and ivies. My classes listed below would be considered extremely rigorous at my school. Rarely does anyone take an AP sophomore year, or double up on sciences (We have trimesters). Basically if I take this schedule, I would be making a lot of A's, A-'s, and B+'s. Of course if I tone it down a bit, I would be able to get all A's. As many CC's on here, my goal is to go to Cornell, Brown, Dartmouth, or Duke. So what do you think I should do, realllllllllllllllllly challenge myself and maybe slip in a few A-'s or B+'s, or tone it down some? Thanks!

It’s not always about rigor. Overall, your layout is really good. If you do well in these classes and do well on standardize tests I think you should be fine.

Not always about rigor? Can you go more in depth please?

Sure. First of all, a lot of people on this site question this for many reasons. From my knowledge, (I talked to a few admission directors) that class rigor is great, but you students will have to know that when you are going for the college of your dreams it’s about showing what interest you and dedication. Yeah, college will want students to take AP classes, but it all comes down to if you’re truly interested. One of friends received a a full ride to John Hopkins. This kid didn’t take EVERY single AP class either. He stuck to what he enjoyed and stuck to it. Another girl I know took only 3 AP classes in her high school career. AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and AP Literature. Also got good test scores and she got accepted into a good science program. There’s so much more than just ‘taking hard classes’ all the time.

Thank you for such an awesome response! My interest really lies on science, specifically biology and environmental, hence why I’m taking two a year! A lot of my friends think I should do other courses such as AP physics or AP lit because they show colleges that you can handle those difficult courses. I hate physics! Overall, you completed answered my question. Thanks!

Thanks so much. Yeah If you hate physics don’t take it. I took physics my freshman year… worst decision of my life lol. So glad to be of help.
