I've heard some not so nice things about the city of Scranton and the town surrounding the campus.

Any input?

I currently attend the U and it is incredibly safe as long as you are cautious. With that being said, the campus has a very safe feel, I walk back from the library or my work study alone after dark without a second thought. While off campus I normally have at least one person with me just to be cautious, but I’m pretty sure this would be the case with most schools. During the day off campus is fine, its just a little more sketchy during the night on weekends, but if youre off campus at this time chances are youre with friends anyway

^^Agreed. It’s very safe on the campus, but if you go off-campus at night, you should go in a group. It’s really that way for any city, though. Scranton’s relatively safe and I feel comfortable walking off-campus by myself during the day.

That’s good to here

I have experienced many “safe” cities at colleges…not all make you feel anxious or cautious…something to consider when deciding upon a college.

In my experience, the campus, center city by city hall and the park, and down by Steamtown Mall is safe.

The rest of the city? I feel safer in Trenton, tbh.

My friends and I are in high school and we’ve hung around the city at night and everything was ok. Of course there are usually about five of us in a group…
