How screwed am I?

Ok so I didn't sign up for the SATII subject tests and the next date is Jan 27! I read somewhere that Stanford needs the scores by Dec. 15. I am one of the candidates on the borderline admit/deny (see my stats @ http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=263059). Is there anything I can do to recify the situation?

It's very simple, just not what you want to hear.

If Stanford wants the scores by Dec 15, you aren't going to make it.

The Dec. 2 test date includes the Subject Tests. Contact the College Board and ask them if you can sign up extra-late or show up as a walk-in. When my son took the Subject Tests, the hall was nearly empty.

CONTACT STANFORD AND TELL THEM WHAT IS GOING ON! Silence is not your friend here. If you are a good candidate and they are interested in you, they will work through this with you.

Good luck! Try to remember that you can still live a long, happy, productive life without going to college at Stanford. Relax.

Thanks for the reassurance, even if I did do the standby or the walk in testing I’m not sure if the scores would make it in time. Still though, I’ll contact Stanford and tell them what’s going on, hopefully they will have good news…

Also, would it help that my grandfather just underwent open heart surgery and a triple (or maybe quadruple, I forgot which) bypass surgery. It did somewhat mess up my life around the deadline for registering for the subject tests. My mother went to support my grandfather and most days I was reliant on freinds or my father when he finally came home from work at around 9 pm. You know on the other hand, I might just come off as the pathetic applicant who can't deal with trauma. Also, they might look down upon a decision to test at the last minute. RRRR, I don't know what to do. I know I would do well on the math section because I always do well in math competitions and all my freinds ask me for help on their math homework. Ehh, I'm just really confused and anxious right now.

Have you contacted Stanford yet?

I was actually waiting for feedback from these forums as to what to say in the email that I'm trying (unsuccessfully) to write.

Hi,

I am planning to apply to Stanford regular decision this year. I didn't sign up for the SATII subject tests and the next date is Jan 27. I read that Stanford needs the scores by Dec. 15. Is there anything I can do to recify the situation?

Sincerely,
Your Name

Good news:
(from the stanford website)

My test scores won’t be sent before the application deadline; what should I do?

Applicants should make sure they plan to take the required standardized tests in time for the score reports to be received by Stanford before we begin reviewing applications. Single-Choice Early Action applicants must take the tests no later than October, and Regular Decision applicants must take the tests no later than mid December. If you follow these guidelines, you should not need to request a rush test report.

I guess now all I have to do is convince the college board to allow me to take the test and start studying...

Thanks I'll try a spin off of the message you wrote, including the info that I just found out.

If you can take the December test and put Stanford as your score recipient, they will get your scores on time. If not, they won't. It is that simple.

I would not recommend incorporating the grandpa story into any of this.

Yeah, you know, if I am allowed to take the Dec. Tests I might just say screw it and apply to Cornell and/or cal berkely instead. (I didn't apply before because I didn't plan on taking the SATIIs which are required by stanford)

stanford does not require satIIs btw, although it is strongly recommended, w'ever that means. So you should probably try taking it as a walk in. Also...Ask stanford if they'll accept rushed january scores.
