well I just logged onto my UCLA financial aid information thing, and it said that it didn't receive it. I then logged onto my fafsa and realized there was a mistake, and it's only in the "processed" stage and it didn't calculate the EFC.

Well, I just made the correction, but would it count as late submission for financial aid? Because the UCLA's site says march 2nd is the deadline for priority financial aid, and I DID submit my fafsa before march 2nd but I didn't realize there was a mistake.

I know I'm stupid and should've checked for mistakes and relog on to my fafsa and etc, but I'm scared that I might receive a low/no financial aid.

since it's a public school... how worried should I be?

my friends already know how much they're getting from grants and stuff. Mine just says it hasn't received it yet because I frickin' accidentally left my mother's first name initial blank, which then meant that the name/etc of my mom didn't match her social security number's records and stuff.

I wasn't even notified about it, arg. I'm gonna be ****ed if my financial aid gets limited because of that stupid mistake

also, is this situation basically the same thing as filing a fafsa today and submitting it? Or will UCLA look at the date processed, and I will still be eligible for the grants and stuff?

The deadline isn't really there to give them an arbitrary marker. They don't look at when your FAFSA processed and go "oh, he sent it March 3rd, no money for him!" Rather, the deadline is there so that they have the opportunity to see all of the financial aid requests together and work out their budget to cover the need they see fit.

You will likely have a problem with your financial aid. If you have a CalGrant, you might not be given all of it because most of their budget for CalGrants has already been allocated; university grants may have been wholly distributed; etc. The only thing you will be nearly guaranteed to be awarded is loans and quite possibly work study if you qualify.

But don't let that stop you, and don't let it stop you from appealing if it turns out your package is unworkable. They do have some flexibility, and a late application doesn't always mean that you're up a creek without a paddle. Just be prepared for the possibility.

There was another poster earlier who had the same problem (late FAFSA) and he said he was told he would not get CAL grants. As far as federal aid, if you are eligible, certain federal aid is not limited such as Pell grants and stafford loans. if you qualify you should get them regardless of when you file. Other federal aid is limited (in that the school is given x number of dollars and when that is gone it is gone). This includes SEOG grants, Perkins loans and possibly work study.

As undecided said - I don't think they deliberately penalize you for late filing - it is more a case of certain funds already having being allocated.

I'm pretty sure it's cal grants, which I've heard is a lot

so mine is really a late fafsa? I submitted it on time. I just needed to make some corrections :

the confirming email the fafsa sent me when I finished my fafsa said the school/fafsa would contact me if they needed more information, but they didn't.

If you got an email saying it was submitted you should be ok. I thought you meant it had not submitted. On your confirmation did it show an estimated EFC?

It usually does that. In that case you should be ok. If it was fully submitted and the school get the EFC then it should count as on time even though you had to correct it.

You may want to contact the school monday and explain the situation and check that they got it. Good luck.

yeah I got an email saying it was "processed"

Dear xxxx,

Your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) has been processed and the data will be made available to the school(s) listed on your FAFSA. The financial aid office at your school will contact you if additional information is required.

... etc
[/quote]

I remember it displayed my EFC after I submitted it. It's not included in the confirmation email though.

also on the UCLA's financial aid site: "If the Social Security Number on your FAFSA does not match the SSN in our records, we will not receive your FAFSA data."

mine matched but not my mother's

eh I guess I might be overreacting a bit, I'll stop bothering you and I'll just wait and call them whenever they're available.
