In summary: you are kind of in trouble, I’m not going to lie. However, even if you had a perfect 4.0 UW and a 2400 SAT and a 36 ACT, there is no guarantee that you’re going to get accepted to any ivy. A C+ pretty much pushes you out, and a B is not great either. Please remember, YOU ARE A SOPHOMORE. There is no guarantee you’re going to 4.0 your next 2 years. There is no guarantee that you’re going to break 2000 on the SAT. You many not even WANT to follow the HYPSM label (which I am assuming you are following the names rather than the schools since the schools vary greatly and people RARELY really like the aspects of more than 2 or 3 ivies unless they are following a brand name).

It’s not what happens to you, it’s what you do about it. If you overcome your C+, either in school/outside of school that can be a great essay. (IE: win chemistry competition)

After a C+ (or even a B-) and an F, yes, you’re screwed for HYPSM. Unless you have a damn good reason and get As from here on out, you’re not going to one of those school.

You’re not totally screwed for UC schools though.

So, which one hurts more, the C+ or the retaken F?

There’s hope for the C+. It could be a B-. It probably is. I know I got it…

**** me. I should have taken Honors… But no, I had to take the hardest class available because only peasants take Honors… Brilliant, just brilliant.

You should not be following the names of the school other than focusing on what you do for education. HYPSM do not only look at grades and sat scores. They look at the overall quality of you. Do not spend like 500 or 1000 dollars just to apply to all 10 Ivy League schools in order to think that you’re better than everyone else. Get about 2 or 3 Ivies on your list… that’s it. There are many great schools out there that will direct you to great job opportunities after you get out of college and they’re the national ranked colleges in the U.S. If you’re majoring in Science/Math, look into great top 25 schools!

If you’ve taken about 3-5 APs in your high school career, I would say give yourself a break from there. There’s no need to continue them afterwards and stress out about why your grades were low. I’d prefer just concentrate on getting As in Honors. Good luck… if you can’t handle a subject… take a regulars (I don’t think one regulars course would hurt though.)

Don’t be so full of yourself. Don’t dis honor students. I took English IV Honors instead of AP Lit at my high school because I am not that great at English and analyzing poetry. I got an A in the class. I guarantee that is better than you having too much pride and getting a C in AP Chem would you could have gotten an A in “peasant” honors Chem.

I hope you don’t get in. Too many arrogant kids like you get into HYPSM, when there are better kids who deserve them.

And like someone else said, it’s not all about HYPSM. There ARE other great schools out there.

Ranking 1/600 won’t excuse you from anything, since admissions people look at the context. Are you 1/600 in a school where the average SAT is 1400, or 1/600 in a school where the average SAT is 1000? That is a big difference.

Keep making whiny CC threads until all of your bad grades become A’s and a unicorn delivers five acceptance letters from HYPSM and a job offer from Goldman.

HopefulEagle86, MIT and Stanford still aren’t technically ivy league schools lol. same caliber academically maybe, but not in the same athletic conference

ChoklitRain, if you can please clarify your knowledge of the most prestigious colleges in the country based on where they should stand in rankings, please present the intellect to support your proof of the fact that I’m miscomprehended. If I can remember, Stanford moved up a step over Harvard last time (which I forgot when) and with MIT’s low acceptance rate, everyone has 1% chance of being admitted. If you cannot directly classfiy what is so called the “Ivy League”, please close the can and do not try to open it.
