I noticed that Kohler is the the only residence hall designated as substance free, and it is for all grade classmen. Do students at this hall fit in well with the rest of the students (who are not in substance free dorms), or are they considered exceptions or on the margins, and possibly odd?

I know Lawrence well and would be very surprised if this was considered a very big deal. (In addition, I would guess that even if Kohler is substance free, some of the students who live there are not substance free--that is, might behave outside of Kohler differently from the way they behave inside Kohler.) Lawrence just isn't the kind of place where, provided one is civil and responsible, differences of this sort are all that important.
