How selective is Carnegi Mellon?

<p>Selectivity isn't everything. Princeton and Cornell engineering are more selective but CMU is ranked above Princeton and about equal to Cornell. Plus as you mentioned ECE has its own admissions, other schools don't, ECE at cmu is quite a bit more selective than CIT, and ece isn't counted towards CIT selectivity.</p>

<p>I agree but I maintain that CMU is selective but so are its applicants. UChicago and Cornell Engineering had around 40% or over acceptance rates in '05 too as examples of self-selective applicants. Acceptance rate alone is worth nothing as there are tier 3 schools with 20-30% acceptance rates. Look at the class % and SAT ranges.</p>
