I am curious how different the requirements are for out of staters. Does anyone know what one needs to consider UGA a safety school?

UGA is pretty tough with its out-of-state applicants, moreso than I thought at first. It'd recommend a 1400 on your M/V and a pretty high GPA, probably around 3.9 on their scale at least, to consider it a safety. This is of course assuming there are no other special factors like some kind of incredible achievement or being from a minority group.

i heard they like athletes...and females...

Yeah I can see some of a tendency to favor athletes, but only if they're really, really accomplished and could definitely do varsity or maybe club level stuff in college. As for as females, the admissions office is actually looking for less of them because the current ratio (60-40 F to M) is only going to get more out of whack in the coming years. Being male might actually get you a small boost.

I am really surprised to hear that UGA is so selective for out of state applicants. I wonder how many apply from the Northeast. What other schools do most kids apply to who are applying to UGA? Anyone know?

im from nyc, applied EA to Georgia, hopefully get in. also applied ED to U of Florida

uhhhmmm

apparently, it's easier to get into UGA out of state then it is to UF instate. at least that's what my guidance counselor said.

and also:
my friend's sister got in with a lowish GPA (she only took 1 honors class) and a 26 or something on her ACT. she got in OOS. she had TONS of extra curricular stuff. definitely didn't save cancer, but she was still really involved.

good luck!
i'm applying EA as well

save cancer?

sorry, i just got home from doing all of MY ecs and school stuff. it's 1034 PM
i dont know what im talking about

i hope i get it into florida or georgia, both good schools

The reason why UGA is a difficult gambit for non-residents is that it and many other Georgia colleges have become much more popular since the introduction of Hope Scholarships for residents. Simply put, many more Georgia kids (particularly from the Atlanta suburbs) are staying within the state to attend college now that the state government foots most of the bill (for resident high school students who graduate with minimum B average).

Also adding to UGA popularity is the "fun city" reputation of Athens, GA.

i hope i get it into florida or georgia, both good schools

what about FSU?

Isnt Florida State also good?

How much of a chance would an international applicant have (good grades, SAT scores, etc.)?

Katia probably a good chance assuming stats are in range. UGA, like other schools, always could use more diversity.

Yeah they're definitely looking for more international applicants, they just might not be forthcoming about financial aid unless you're good enough to qualify for a merit scholarship.
