Just wondering how selective it is. I will be applying for the 2012 summer. Is it as selective as undergrad admissions? Thanks

i’m pretty sure it’s not as selective as undergrad admissions. as long as you can pay the fees for the program.

Cool, man. I think it’d be amazing to study there.

They’ll take anyone who’ll pay their ridiculous prices.
If it’s not too late, you’re probably be better off taking courses from another program. Taking Harvard Summer School classes does not impress the admission’s office any more than taking them from another school and you’re paying SO much money for equal returns. It’s fun to be around Harvard for the summer, but keep in mind that housing and tuition are much higher than even close neighbors, such as MIT.

Instead of going to Harvard Summer School you should just save the money by writing a supplementary essay that says “My parents have money to dish out and I don’t have any sense of how to productively spend a summer.”

Well, since you seem to have a trend of irrelevant replies, I am going to go ahead and discredit anything you say.

I honestly don’t think that summer school will help you to get into Harvard. but def will be a good experience if you are willing to pay the $10000.
I believe working experiences( ie. interns, volunteers…) value much more than summer school studying

Ignoring the things I say isn’t the same as “discrediting them.” You’d have to actually use facts to discredit them.

Ok, then I’m “using” them to put into my ever-expanding collection of insignificant replies.

Maybe he just wants to go to SSP because he really wants to go to SSP. I know I did.

Someone gets it.

From [Harvard Summer School | Summer College Courses & Summer Programs](http://www.summer.harvard.edu) FRQ page

My application was not successful. Can you tell me why?

Admissions decisions are made on a rolling, first-come, first-served basis and are very competitive. Each year many deserving young people are denied a place in the program. Because the admissions committee keeps no notes or minutes of their deliberations, the reasons for their decision cannot be explained. Unfortunately, the admissions decision is final and cannot be reversed.

Will attending the Secondary School Program guarantee admission to Harvard?

No, there is no relation between admission to the Harvard Summer School Secondary School Program and admission to the freshman class at Harvard College. However, attending Harvard Summer School and performing well will strengthen your application to any college or university. Additionally, the Secondary School Program offers many opportunities designed to help you navigate the college-application process, gain admission to the college of your choice, and enhance your performance once enrolled in college.

My opinion is to spend your summer doing something more productive (research, volunteering, work experience) unless you’re open to throwing away 10G.

^Which is a nicer way, granted, of saying what I already said.

HarvardBoundNY, I’m not trying to be a dick, I could care less how you spend your summers. But my advice is to spend your summer in a way that will achieve personal growth. You aren’t going to get that at the SSP. If it didn’t have the name “Harvard” would you even be considering it? 10 grand is an obscene price for the program’s very few tangible benefits.

HArvardBoundNY, ^ Is one of those Ivy types with that oh-so-obviously-justifiable superiority complex. I’d say this is one reason not to go to H for the summer. Stanford FTW.

Interestingly, I have seen people say Brown program pays dividends in ivy league admissions. I read a post a while ago on CC by someone who went there and where all his/her classmates were admitted.

@HarvardBoundNY You should try summer at Brown. I’m sure they have a great summer program just as good as Harvard’s, for a way cheaper price. Not saying you shouldn’t go for HSP but keep your mind open, too! :)

Paying ten grand to go to harvard summer school is not going to make you stand out.
Invest your time and money into developing/growing in a passion of yours. THAT is a productive summer

Oh yes, and judging by your screen name, I’m assuming you want to go to Harvard. It says on their website that going to SSP won’t increase your chances of getting into Harvard. Only for other colleges/universities. So maybe that’s something to think about.

Ill have to look into that. Although, Mark Zuckerberg did HSS and didn’t have that many outstanding ec’s or hooks. He got in.

I don’t see why you people care what this kid does with his summer/money. Is it affecting you? Is this kid going to HSP going to kill your future children? All you pretentious ****s can need to find something else productive to do except for talking this kid what to do. Now get now. No. I insist. You first. LEAVE.
