How selective is Harvard Summer Program?

Harvard offers generous financial aid if your family is REALLY in need.

If you want to go to SSP, definitely apply. The courses that are offered through SSP are unique to Harvard.

I know this is an onld thread kinda, but MArk ZUckerburg did have hooks beside HSP. During Zuckerberg’s high school years, under the company name Intelligent Media Group, he built a music player called the Synapse Media Player that used artificial intelligence to learn the user’s listening habits, which was posted to Slashdot and received a rating of 3 out of 5 from PC Magazine. Microsoft and AOL tried to purchase Synapse and recruit Zuckerberg, but he chose instead to enroll at Harvard College in September 2002.

This is a now even older thread, but…

The kid asked us about the selectivity of this program. This gave us the impression that he was deliberating the matter. And what are some very common factors one considers when deliberating? Price and whether or not the matter under deliberation will enrich him/her. And so we commented on those two factors. I do not see where any of us were being pretentious, or at least to the extent where you feel the need to be profane.

Since the kid is asking about selectivity, one can reasonably also deduce this interest in selectivity…and therefore prestige…and therefore doing things for the purpose of looking good on a college application…may be the reason he was interested in attending the program. We tried to deter him from making such a lousy decision, giving him insight to the things he could spend his time and money on to personally enrich himself.
