How selective is Ohio State?

My friend and I disagree as to how we view the selectivity of OSU? In your words, how selective would you say OSU is compared to other unis and how hard is it to get in?

well their acceptance rate is 55.5% which is more selective than a lot of state schools but no where near “selective” to put it in perspective Yale has an acceptance rate of about 6%. So long story short not really hard but you have to at least be competent to get in

The following details about admissions is from their website

Students ranked in top 10 percent of high school class: 62%
Students ranked in top 25 percent of high school class: 95%
ACT composite score range, middle 50 percent: 27–31
SAT score range (CR+ M), middle 50 percent: 1210–1360

That may give you a sense of the students that go there, keeping in mind it is a public school. The above description is probably accurate, although it is definitely relative to the student and the school. What other schools were you comparing it to?

Schools like UIUC, UF, Purdue, Wisconsin and UMinn @shawnspencer‌

@MitchIsTheMan97‌ I consider OSU to be on par with each of the schools you mention. Since Ohio State joined the Common Application a few years ago the University has seen a tremendous increase in the amount of applications, particularly from OOS. This has allowed OSU to become more selective in who they choose to accept. I believe that two years ago they admitted 64 percent of applicants and it went down to 55 percent last year. The trend of more stringent admissions will likely contunue with the 2015 entering class. This past August I read that the stats for the 2014 entering class at Ohio State was its best EVER and only behind Northwestern and Michigan in having the highest ACT scores of all the schools in the Big Ten conference. Pretty impressive!

For whatever it’s worth, that 55.5% acceptance rate was taken from two years back. Last year, the admission rate was in the 40% range (Ave ACT 28.8) and this year, with well over 50,000 applicants for 7,000 spots, it can only get even more competitive. TOSU is currently the most competitive B1G school behind only Northwestern and Michigan.

Northwestern, Michigan, Ohio State rank highest in Big Ten for ACT scores

As of the latest, tOSU has already surpassed its set goal (stats) for the 2015-2016 class. Here is the copy of last’s year’s official enrollment report: http://enrollmentservices.osu.edu/report.pdf
