How selective is SUNY Buffalo's Engineering?

How is UB's engineering compared to Stony Brook's engineering? I received an acceptance letter from SBU 3 days ago.

Can I also get a chance? Here are my stats:

GPA: 90% (About 3.7)
SAT: 1800 One sitting (650 for Math and 570 for Critical Reading)
Rank: 74/461
Classes: 4 APs and a lot of honors
EC: Couple of clubs here, couple of volunteer hours there. Pretty much sub-par.

US News and World Reports ratings for 2013 rank UBs engineering program at 54th and Stony Brook at 56th. UB has the largest SUNY engineering program and also offers graduate studies in engineering. My son was admitted to electrical engineering via early decision.
Math SAT 660
Reading SAT 640 - UB ignores the writing section
UWGPA 87.7 (but all his regents exams were in the 90s)
ranked in the top 35%
no AP or Honors classes
9 technology courses as a pre-defined cluster & an independent study in electricity
varsity skiier
job as a ski instructor
member of the school chorus

I think you do have a fairly decent chance of acceptance to UB

Is Buffalo engineering good? I want to do chemical. Does it offer opportunities for its students? Would it be guaranteed that ill get a job after i graduate?

Applied to University of Buffalo for early decision
SAT 1270 math reading
670 math
600 reading
Gpa: 3.7 on 4.5 scale weighted

I was accepted into the Environmental Engineering program with a 30000 dollar scholarship.

I visited UB in early november, apparently the applications to the engineering school are considered separately from the rest of the universities. The professor giving the tour I was on said that there were 6,000 applicants for freshman enrolling in Fall 2012. She said that there were only 600 slots though, resulting in about a 10% acceptance rate. I kinda found it hard to believe, but I don’t think she had much of a reason to lie. Also, the average unweighted GPA was 94, and the average SAT was around 1320-1340 if I remember correctly. They don’t consider extracurricular activities or essays for acceptance into the college of engineering, solely your GPA and SAT out of 1600. After hearing this I was pretty mad to be honest, considering my extra curriculars are far above most people but I guess I’ll just have to deal with it and hope for the best. Good luck!

Omg really? ): My stats aren’t too great to be accepted into engineering then…

My son was accepted into the engineering program early decision with a 3.2 UWGPA and 1300 SAT so no one should give up hope.

My son get accepted today, he applied RD.
So far 4 AP classes and got 4 on all.
sat; 620 math 590 English
90 average unweighted.
Given provost Scholarship

@lilmeonred

I wouldn’t sweat it that much, I got accepted today to the school of engineering (Aerospace) and was offered 2.5k/yr however solely looking at my stats I didn’t think they would give me much. My SAT was 1320/1600 with a weighted GPA of 92 though my courses were some of the hardest, I had 7APs and 8 honors throughout my high school career

My stats are not even that close to what you said… I have 1140 / 1600 and 3.7 GPA… Does that mean im automatically rejected?

Are you a junior? If so I recommend retaking the SATs

I was accepted a few days ago to Civil engineering with a provost scholarship.
@VelociPrime I highly doubt average is 1320. Perhaps that’s their projected average? I know last year’s was around a high 1200.

No. I already applied. waiting for a decision

@Mel444 oh that’s right, the average SAT was around 1290 not 1320, sorry about that…
@lilmelonred oh okay, good luck! Just as a side note if your set on Buffalo I believe you can transfer into the college of engineering after a year or so, not sure though, try contacting the office of admissions once you hear from them. Also, if your offered a spot on the waitlist, take it! 100% of the students that were on the waitlist last year were accepted!

I’m probably waitlisted then lol.

Got the letter today. Got into the school. Not the program

Congrats on your admission lilmelonred, don’t worry, lots of people drop engineering so if it is what you want just get good grades freshman year and you can transfer in.
