How serious is Princeton about its deadline?

So… I know I’m an idiot, but I waited until the last moment to submit my app. My common app was submitted on 1/1/15, but then the Common App site decided to crash for 15 minutes and I wasn’t able to submit my Writing Supplement until 1/2/15 @ 12:11 a.m. :frowning: Does this mean I have no chance at Princeton? Or are they lenient about this?

you know that PTon is 100% ecstatic that you applied, right? Their process isn’t meant to be a tightrope walk over a chasm. They WANT to admit you. Remember that. You’re fine.

phew good to know. Thanks!

I did the same thing. I submitted my common app on January 1st, but it crashed before I submitted my writing supplement. I submitted the writing at 12:11 AM. My Pton application tracking system shows that the writing supplement is still yet to be processed, which is not a good sign.

Oh, @T26E4‌. (-:

@741236985‌ I wish you had listened to the posters in your others threads who told you this could happen and get it in early.

Unless there is a reported outage (which I don’t see), you may have given them a reason to toss your application. I would call first thing Monday.

I will think good thoughts for you.

I can appreciate the sentiment that the reviewers want to see as many fine applicants as possible, but in the real world we have rules for a reason. One of those reasons is so that things appear to be fair and balanced for all participants.

Now, I’m curious as to how extensive the relaxation of the deadline actually is.

Did you not see the “jk” in fine print next to the deadline Princeton posted on the Common App?

Lol. You’ll be fine! (jk)

Very unlikely 12 minutes will affect your decision.

“The margin for mistakes on the application deadline is miniscule and subject to rare circumstances,” Martin said. “If the deadline was missed because of the student’s own negligence, they’ve most likely missed that opportunity and will have to wait until next semester to apply.” Kafi Martin, CEO and founder of Degrees of Success Inc.

If the Common App site crashed Princeton admissions will be aware of the issue. They will most certainly be lenient in the case of issues outside of your control even if you literally waited until the 11th hour to apply. We had a number of conversations with Admissions prior to my son matriculating and they were very relaxed and helpful. They know that things happen that are outside of your control. If you are not offered admission it will not be because of missing the deadline by 11 minutes.

To the OP - You’ll be fine. There was a definite problem on the Common App at that hour and Princeton is, I’m sure, fully aware of it. Even if not, pretty much every school would accept an application if the Common App was submitted in a timely fashion and the supplement was only a few minutes late.

Now I don’t know what to think -_-

According to the Application Tracking System, they have received my supplement, which I suppose is a good sign.

Follow-up question: According to the tracking page, Pton hasn’t received my school report or transcript, but I know my counselor sent it out about a month ago. Is this just slow processing on Pton’s part? Or did they not receive the report/transcript?

Reports and transcripts are often slow coming in and there seems to be a lag between when they are received and when they appear on the report. This question comes up every year and inevitably resolves itself in a number of days.
