I just got a letter today saying that UM got my final transcripts and have seen a serious drop in my grades. The only grade that seriously dropped was math from a C- to a D. They said I have to write a letter of explaination and they will reveiw it after so many days from the dealine. How serious is this? I mean it was a calc class and yeah I slacked a little but I'm honestly not good at math. I thought I could stick it out but now I realize I should have dropped the class. If I'm not majoring in anything math related, can it be that bad? I heard only 20 people had their admission revoked last year. What are my chances?

Make sure you right a good reason (obviously you're not gonna write that you slacked off). Don't say that it's not related to your major (because they will infer that you slacked off). Just ask your parents or a school counselor what to write and you should be okay. I wouldn't WORRY about it. If everything else is good except ONE grade then it's possible they might put you on "academic probation" (whatever that is...nothing serious I imagine) or I strongly doubt they would, reject your admission. If you expect the worse, it will happen - hope for the best and it should work out.

were you somewhat borderline?
what state are you from, and when'd you apply?

i'm sure you'll be fine. considering only 20 people had their admissions revoked, out of the thousands of incoming freshman... you should be okay.

I would take it seriously--or, at the very least, give U-M the impression that you take this seriously. You need to let Michigan know that it didn't make a mistake when they judged you a hard worker and well-prepared/capable of college work.
