Is getting a 5 self-study better then a "A" in the actual ap class and a 5 on the test?

I don’t know how much the colleges will notice since APs are only a small portion of the application. Filling in an extra AP exam or 2 on the application without having taken the class probably won’t make much of a difference. It’s probably better to get an A and a 5 for the AP class/exam. Self-studying is never as comprehensive as taking the actual class and the colleges probably know that already. But if you can get a good score self-studying, by all means, go ahead. Every little bit helps.

So hypmsc+ivys wont see it as that impressive that I just dropped pre-calc due to crappy teacher and taught myself calc? I’m technicly in a class, but only topics I covered with them were area between curves and diff-eq, everything else for bc exam is self taught. Its like the only hook I have going for me

Perhaps your college counselor could include info about that fact that you are self-studying?

If you can’t take 4-5 AP classes in high school then it probably will but trying to load your application with more AP’s than 4-5 is more trouble than it’s worth.
