how should i answer these essay questions?

Question 1:

Everyone belongs to many different communities and/or groups defined by (among other things) shared geography, religion, ethnicity, income, cuisine, interest, race, ideology, or intellectual heritage. Choose one of the communities to which you belong, and describe that community and your place within it. (Approximately 250 words)

I was wondering if it would be acceptable to talk about my atheist views in this essay. However, I'd rather not discuss anything that might stir up prejudice from the adcoms. But the only other ideas I can come up with for this essay would be about my ethnic community (which I'm sure is a very common topic, so I'd rather avoid that since it wouldn't make me stand out). Is there any other aspect of life the word "community" could be used to describe?

Question 2:

Describe the unique qualities that attract you to the specific undergraduate College or School (including preferred admission and dual degree programs) to which you are applying at the University of Michigan. How would that curriculum support your interests? (500 words maximum)

Could I discuss any aspects about the university apart from the academics? Or is the academic side of the college all they want us to discuss?

Thanks
