How should I call DHL?

Aah, can’t wait any longer! A couple of questions:

When should I call DHL tomorrow? In other words, after what time should they have the information?

Who should I call? My nearest branch office, or the central office, wherever that is?

How should I phrase the question? “Is a package coming to my address this week?”

Thanks!

hehe

you said “package”

idk why anyone would want a dhl worker to tell you whether or not youve been accepted to your dream school.

My guess: late(i.e. after 5pm). But does that really make a difference? You’ll probably be calling them every 10 mintes!

Remember, they (probably) still have last minute decisions to make, and the packages(from what I hear) don’t actually get shipped out until Tuesday(but Columbia sends out the info so DHL can get the trucks ready).

Also, no one knows that they’re using DHL this year. Two years ago they used FedEx, and for the summer program this past summer (from what I hear) they also used FedEx. So, you may want to try both DHL and FedEx.

1-800-CALL-DHL works best. They’ll be able to look into their computer system and see what packages are scheduled to ship out.

Just ask point-blank: “I live at <insert address=”" here=“”>. Are there any packages comming to that address from Columbia University?"</insert>

Hope that helps!

Don’t do it! Step away from that ledge! Skip school on Tuesday and sleep in until 4:30pm if you really must make the hours go by faster, but for the love of God don’t get your decision from DHL!!!

Of course, that’s just my opinion. Follow your heart!

But really, think twice. Remember: it only makes for a fun story if the news is good.

I don’t think it’s SO bad to find out from DHL, depending on the situation you’re in. For me, someone who is waiting for his ED decision before starting his RD apps, it would be nice to know a day earlier. Sure, rejection is painful, but I’d rather get a jump on my RD applications if possible.

In that situation, I suppose it would be…less bad. I just know that I would never be able to get right to work on more RD apps after news like that. I’d still probably be too distracted/disappointed/worried about doing better on school work at that point to make much of a dent in my remaining college applications. But I guess if you’re someone who thinks you can do that and are really pressed for time, I’d be able to understand that.

One thing I would consider, though, is that if DHL tells you there’s no package on your way you still might be unsure of your decision. It’s one thing if they say there is one coming–that’s a definite answer, and a good one at that–but if you get a negative answer, it’s likely that you’ll have a nagging doubt in your mind for another 24 hours about whether that was just a mistake, whether Columbia has mailed letters yet, whether they used another carrier you never even thought of…etc.

Eh. Maybe it’s a good idea for some, but it’s too much for my weak, college-worn heart to handle.

Best of luck, though, to anyone who tries this.

Just wait for the official decisions… personally, if I were you, I would rather wait ~16 more hours than to go under the agony of hearing that there was no package and argue with yourself whether Columbia is really using DHL/FedEx/UPS/whatever this year / whether the packages have already been mailed out / etc. etc. etc.

i agree with samuelc.
Although i dont like the fact that its not e-mail this year,
i rather find it out from what columbia has prepared, not some old man working for DHL.

i still hope theres a sleeping pill that’ll put u into 48 hour sleep… put them in ur system right now… bam, decisions when u wake up :frowning: :frowning: :(

I should have just cryogenically frozen myself on November 2nd to skip all this agony.

AHAH
yeahhhhh.

Well…

I ordered a dress online a few days ago and got an email from DHL that it is supposed to come to my house tomorrow in the late afternoon. So there will be a DHL truck pulling up to my house regardless, which is really just a tease. Oh no!

Has anyone called DHL yet?

Do the packages ship this afternoon or tomorrow? :\ I just want to know so that I can start finishing my RD apps (if anything)

I called DHL. First of all, it didn’t go anywhere, and second of all, I don’t even know if Columbia is using DHL. Anyway, I called and was like can I track a package if I don’t know the tracking number? The lady asked me a bunch of questions about where the package is coming from, my zip code/address/name, when the package was sent (and a comment- “Are you doing some holiday shopping? I’m sure the package will come tomorrow.” Me: Oh really? Great!) and I got really confused and basically the call didn’t get anywhere. Then again, I called at 4:45 and maybe it wasn’t in their system yet.

Haha yeah I called bc my best friend insisted =X

They said that it’s probably not in their system yet (if it were there)
I also checked last year’s threads and the packages were sent at 4:15pm the day of
