I am attempting to get into U mich engineering. This last Act I got a 31C 31e 31m 31r 29s(meh). I know very low scores but I am a sophomore so I have some time for improvement. I was wondering should I go for a 36 in math and leave the rest of the subjects at about 30? Would that be more impressive or would an overall higher Act score bring more attention to my application?

C31 as a Sophomore is pretty impressive! Focus on all sections. And take the ACT at least 1-2 more times. Your overall score will improve as you learn the test. Your scores will improve across the board with familiarity.
Go for C33-34 as a Sophomore. You can totally do it. Time is on your side!

You have plenty of time to prep, so I would focus on moving all of your scores, especially math.
When are you next taking the ACT? If you could get it out of the way you can then take Subject tests if you need them.
