how should i go about getting a letter of recommendation

This question is kind of dumb but like when getting for letters of recommendation, how many should I get? and should I ask the teacher to email it to me, or how does it work? Do they email it to the college? I'm kind of confused on this part of the application, your opinion would be appreciated, thanks.

Look on the Common App or whatever your colleges of choice use. See how many recommendations they want.
Generally I would say 3. Go to the teachers who you think know you best and in whose class you did well, in person or via email and ask if they would be willing to write you a letter of recommendation. Then go to your counselor and ask how it is handled.

Usually it’s two teacher recommendation and and sometimes an optional third one from someone outside of school (coach, for example). You’ll want to look on your college’s website but some schools have requirements on which teachers you ask. For example, some may one one rec from a humanities teacher and the other from a science/math teacher.

To turn in your rec letters, you can either do that on the common app or on Naviance.
