How should I phrase this?

I am applying for Business/Economics at university and I am looking specifically at Wharton.

I recently came third in a national virtual trading competition, and top in my school.

Should I also mention the fact that I made a 40% profit on my shares in just over a month while the market dropped by 10%? - I thought it was quite a significant achievement because many of the other people in the top 20 had profits of just over 10%.

Or should I just leave it at the fact that I came third in a national competition?

Anyone at all?

Just say you won the competition. There is no need to provide the specifics. Stock-picking is not a “talent” the way that, say, scientific research or artistic / musical talent is a talent.

Wouldn’t it show that you are interested or somewhat informed about the specific major that you plan to pursue?

Well, if you’re just going to go ahead and do it the way you want to anyway, why did you bother soliciting opinions? Did you want to hear opinions, or did you just want to be reassured that what you want to do is the right thing?
