How should I pursue?

My passion is for photography. This is truly truly truly what I love to do. but i just don't know how to show my passion.

Here's what I've done so far:
I'm editor in chief and head photographer for my yearbook which has been ranked top in the state for several years in a row

I've been photo editor, the technical editor, now media manager (all basically the same position with increasingly important sounding names) for my school's newspaper

I spent a week in the summer shooting the National Veteran Wheelchair Games (I was asked to by a rep, but it was for volunteer) for the U.S. veteran Affairs (I actually got my camera on a government discount) at Spokane, WA two years ago, and again at Denver, CO this past summer. i was the head newsletter photographer for them, working amongst other professionals, where my photos took precedent over the other professionals' since i was head.

That's what i've done so far. My newspaper advisor loves me immensely for everything I do for the paper and she also happens to be my current english teacher so I'm gonna ask a letter of rec from her. I'll also be sending my portfolio

here's a website with some of my photos (by all means, they are not only my best, a lot of snapshots in there too1):Flickr: ((Sean Lee))'s Photostream

Now here are my options:
- since im under 18, I can't participate in any major photography contests, but i can enter some small time ones
- start my own business. I've beens shooting head shots for theater people, senior portraits, and some product photography for local businesses. i've also shot one wedding. My parents, however, don't really support me in this (or in photography in general)
- option 3

So I'm asking you wonderful collegeconf people if you have any idea what I can fill option 3 with. Has anyone else been stuck in a situation where they can't really express their passion for a visual art?

Thanks for your advice! (and for putting up with my braggin >__<)

Go to university and do some sort of photo-journ (with other stuff as well - perhaps a bit of businessy stuff as well if you plan to start your own business.) take photos for the newspapers in the town and uni etc etc…

I presume you are thinking of uni (college) as you are posting here…

Since you posted this to the Yale forum, are you aiming for Yale? If not, you might try posting this in the High School Life forum or College Admissions. (I’ll be honest: I don’t know which would be better. :P)

Regardless, your work is excellent–practically professional. I’m sure you knew that, though. ;)

I think option 2 is a good choice. Your parents may not support you now, but if you start with a small venture (say, just shooting senior portraits for your friends, then expanding to weddings, etc.), they might be more receptive once they see that you can be successful.

You could also build your own website (I love Flickr, but an independent site is more professional) and sell prints on-line; Flickr would be a good way of promoting your site. I’d recommend interning with a professional, say someone at your local newspaper, who could give you more guidance than most CCers. Also, you won’t like this (eh, at least I wasn’t a big fan), but you could do stock photography and sell that. One of my Flickr contacts both sells stock and does private shoots, etc.

Really, though, I like your work. A lot.

You could submit a portfolio to Scholastic - I think submissions are either in Dec or Jan.
