How should I spend my summer?

Hi. It might be a little early to start thinking about summer plans, but that's exactly what I'm doing. I'm a sophomore in high school right now, and I'm trying to figure out an appropriate way to spend the summer before my junior year.

Last summer I worked as a camp counselor at a camp for kids living in low-income housing units. However, it wasn't volunteer-work; I was compensated for my time. Should I work there again this summer? Would that show commitment? Or should I do actual volunteer-work instead?

My mom also offered me a job at her law firm. I would just be expected to file papers and make coffee runs - that kind of stuff - but would my experiences there demonstrate an interest in the working world? I'm on my school's mock trial team, so it might be interesting to spend time in an actual law office.

Should I attend some kind of program? A friend of mine will be spending the summer abroad in Spain, which I think sounds like a lot of fun. I've also heard of numerous programs at colleges that I think sound interesting.

What I'm really trying to ask is, how can I make best use of my time off from school? What would most appeal to admissions officers? I could always do a combination of the aforementioned activities... which ones do you think would be most beneficial?

Thanks!

Pick something that you want to do, something that truly interests you. Don't worry about what admissions officers will think - the most important thing to them is that you show passion in whatever you do.

All of those sound like interesting and productive ways to spend your summer. They would all be to your benefit on a college application, but also for life in general. Pick whichever most interests you.

seriously, listen to quaera. do what you want. its your summer for fun. if you really care about the college admissions, do something big your junior yr
