I'm registering for the April ACT and have never done the ACT before. What should I expect? How are each of the sections and the questions they have different from the SAT? I really want a 32/33 but I don't know how to study!!!

Well an important question here is have you studied for the SAT already?
I took the ACT and SAT back in December 2011 (ACT was the Saturday after SAT).
I prepped extensively for the SAT’s, but only looked at the some practice sections on the ACT website the day before/day of the exam to get familiar with the format. Scored 2370/35 so I think that SAT studying does help with the ACT.

If your science isn’t very strong though, definitely study extra for that because of course the SAT has no science

the biggest thing is to time yourself doing sections. The timing tends to mess up a bunch of people the first time they take the ACT. And as canadian said…brush up on the science sections

ACT is a lot more direct in their approach of seeing if you have the knowledge.

Math questions like: What is the area of this? What is the equation of this? what is the Range/Domain of this?

Science Questions: Read this graph. Whats this mean? When x is 60 whats y? If this graph was continued… Who’s argument is better given statement lalala…

And so on and so forth.

LEARN YOUR ENGLISH GRAMMAR RULES! being fluent in english speaking and picking those answers get you a 23-25 /:

Take practice tests, its alot calmer than the SAT

Will taking SAT Practice Tests help me? Especially in English and Reading? Those are the sections I have trouble with. Math I’m going to try for a perfect score, and Science I’m not sure. I think I should do pretty well on that after some online practice.

Why take SAT practice tests… when they release the real ones? REAL ACT PREP boook

Well I studied my A$$ of for the SATs and got the the point where I knew the test inside out. I took the ACTs as a last ditch effort as a suggestion from numerous people who thought I would do better on the ACTs. I had a severe lack of motivation while I took the test because I was so content with my SAT score that I didnt feel like trying. I got a 1510/2240 on the SATs and a 26 on the ACTs. Honestly the ACTs are an easier test, but preparation is key as you time is a major issue. If you have never seen the format like I did when I first took them you will get crushed. My advice to you would be to take 5-6 practice tests before the real one.

The SAT is a reasoning and logic test.
The ACT is a speed and memory test.

The SAT coincidentally gives a more accurate measure of intelligence.

The english/reading sections prep will carry over fairly well. In those sections the SAT/ACT are similar, but the ACT is more direct.

ACT math goes a little further than SAT math so you may want to review some concepts not in the SAT. Also ACT has science. While you don’t need to know any science (it’s basically reading comprehension) it might be good to review that.
