My School took a MOCK ACT test earlier in the week and i just got my scores back. I didn’t Prep any for the test. I had a 25 Composite(E:20, M:24, R:33, M:24). I am scheduled to take the April ACT and i want some advice on what would be the best way for me to improve my score. I would like to have a score of at least 28-30 Composite. I plan to apply to competitive colleges and would like a decent starting score to build off of next year.(i’m a sophomore)
Side Question:
Should i be worried about the April ACT testing being postponed or canceled due to Corona-virus?
Hi!
I got a 33 composite on my ACT. The best resource for me was using the official ACT practice tests and taking them repeatedly. It is time consuming but very worth it! Also, don’t be afraid of retaking the ACT if that is possible for you! Best of luck and you should do great starting early!
I’m not sure if April ACT is the way to go if you have 25 composite right now and want to get into competitive colleges. And yes, depending on where you are, it could get canceled. I think you could spend time over this school year/summer and really grind on the practice tests, and understand your weaknesses (which seem to be everything except your Reading score which is good). There are plenty of practice tests available online!
As a junior, my experience is that math is hard to know the younger you are in terms of just not having ever learned the material. For my school I am technically a year ahead in math and in the fall of my junior year I had never even heard of some of the concepts. The best thing for this is really just time. Once you learned the idea the problems themselves are not that challenging. The best time to take it for math would probably be end of junior or fall of senior year.
In terms of English I got the “Complete Guide to the Act English” book which is 200 pages and I kid you not, by reading the first 50 pages the week before my test, my English ACT section went up by 8 pts. I plan on fully reading it before I retake the test and I should be able to bring it up another point or two and maybe even get a perfect score. It helps you with English tricks and tips on the test and was a great investment.
