How significant is this Senior Year drop in grades?

Hey everybody!

Throughout high school I have had very good grades for the most part. My Freshman year I had 4 As and 3 A minuses, My Sophomore year I had 5 As and 2 A minuses, and my Junior Year I had 5 As and 2 A minuses as well. My Sophomore year I took 2 AP courses and my Junior year I took 5. This year, my grades are not up to that standard it seems. It looks like I will end the semester with 2 As, 4 A minuses, and 1 B plus (although there is a slight chance that B plus could become an A minus). I am taking 5 APs again but also a dual enrollment course for math and an honors elective, so my course load is slightly more rigorous than previously. I have never had below an A minus in any of my previous classes throughout high school. My current midyear status isn’t necessarily different from what it has been in the past, yet I have always been able to finish the year strong through final projects and exams, so my grades now aren’t really reflective of what they might be at the end of the year, but I know colleges won’t be able to see that.

I have applied to some of the most selective colleges out there (i.e. Harvard, Princeton, Yale, MIT, Duke, CMU, Penn, etc.). I was wondering how closely colleges look at Senior midyear grades and whether the aforementioned drop in my grades would have any major impact on my admission to any top schools? I would greatly appreciate any advice or input. Thanks!

bump :stuck_out_tongue:

I am also an Asian male going into CS if that helps at all lol

I think the decline will not cause too much damage. Of course it is always better if you have higher grades. But I don’t see a major impact.

Thanks for the response! Anyone else have any thoughts?

You dropped to one B+? Shameful :open_mouth:

Agree with @jym626 . You have a big problem…not. There is no decline. You got a B. No one will care when they see the rest of your transcript. Please don’t be one of those posters that asks us to evaluate minutiae on your application. You know you are a strong applicant

Actually, if all the applicant has is strong grades without other exceptional things to fill out the application, then they are not ,IMO, a strong applicant for the elite schools.

Thanks for the reassuring haha. Yeah, I usually don’t obsess over minutiae and whatnot, but I’ve been kind of stressed out these past few of weeks since my grades aren’t on an “upward trend” per se.

Happy to report that I was able to bring that one B plus up to an A minus. Thanks for all the help guys.
