How highly would you rank it leadership wise? 1 = Being a club member, 6-7 = Student Government President, 10 = Founder of 1000 member Non Profit Organization.

None of those. Plus, you’d need to share a lot more details about the work you did as a Tedx organizer to get better feedback.

sigh. The fact that you need to advertise and twist and compare it to other “leadership” roles indicates that you possess a very shallow view of what “leadership” truly is. Don’t be a poser. Do things because they are meaningful – even if no one ever found out.

While I agree with @T26E4, I understand you want to put this on your college app as many high school students would. I personally would put it under the achievement section or the EC section as “Planned TEDx Event for (City)” and then in the description box you could put your responsibilities. “Managed 10,000 volunteers. Organized set up efforts. Recruited speakers.” Etc…

@kindabored: please let me apologize. Often on this board, students come and bray about their achievements and wonder how "significant’ a role it might play in eventual college admissions. That’s a legitimate question and I don’t mean to downplay your actual achievement. I inferred a mercenary spirit about your post that wasn’t not merited. Please continue to push your self and, receive the recognition you’re due. Just don’t worry about how it looks in others’ eyes so much. Have confidence in what you’re laying your hands to. That’s the spirit of an actual leader. Good luck

I don’t rank EC’s but that is certainly something unique and interesting.

Hahaha T26E4, I am not simply doing it for the purpose of layering my application with a veneer of impressiveness. I am genuinely inspired and captivated by the mission of TED, and have been exposed to it both my friends and teachers who have participated in organizing such an event. I feel that I can truly give back to my community by sparking meaningful conversations through organizing a TEDx Event, and I simply wanted to know that, since it is a very large time commitment, how objectively impressive could it be on that arbitrary scale.

To give more information on my involvement in this, I am the one who has conceived of the idea, taken the initiative to obtain license, and then served as the president of the organizing committee of this TEDx Event.

Write a narrative of your work and its impact to get closer to an answer. Sounds fab so far.

Well, I can’t reveal too much because it will be online. I already have a group of 10 other high school students from 3 other high schools as planning members, and after I obtain the license, I will recruit 5-10 more. The goal of TED is to spark interesting and creative conversations in the community, so we’ve come up with an impactful and meaningful theme specifically for teens, as this is aimed towards teens. We then have to find a venue, find company sponsors to fund this venture, and find the best 5-10 speakers for this event. These speakers are going to be mostly startup CEO’s and significant individuals in my community. This requires a lot of coordination to pull off successfully, and will host up to a 100 people in the community, and will be streamed online.
