how smart are adcoms?

They also only do the choosing during admissions season. Most of the year, they are traveling or doing other work such as freshman orientations.

yea. read "The Gatekeepers," it helps show how modestly adcoms live having to always travel and not getting paid much. some adcoms though (probably at larger schools) are hired just as readers and don't do recruitment. but at most smaller colleges, if you're working as a full-time adcom, you're doing a lot of traveling and then about 2 months of reading. and the decisions are actually tough and not as fun as rating in the "What are my Chances" threads lol. i did a simulation in my Education class and it was tough to reject so many applicants.

Right after they finish accepting/ rejecting/ waitlisting the class of 2010, they must begin the recruitment process for the class of 2011.

ooo, traveling?

"You could start out by being a student tour guide for the admissions office. Learn to walk backwards"

Lol I bet every single college tour guide in the history of the planet uses the joke about walking backwards and hitting things.

It'd be intimidating, though, being walked at all the time...
