How soon do you have to withdraw applications after being accepted ED?

I'm applying to Wash U ED, but I'm also applying to UChicago EA (nonbinding) and U of I (priority deadline, kind of like EA because it's also non-binding and you just find out your results earlier). I know that we have to withdraw all other applications if we're accepted under ED, but how soon do we have to withdraw?

I signed the ED Agreement and I fully intend on going to Wash U if I get in, but I would like to see whether or not I got into U of C if that happens. Is it okay for me to wait a few days to receive their decision and then just not enroll (or withdraw my application if I'm deferred)?

Colleges say you must withdraw your applications from other colleges if accepted ED and some mention that it should be promptly or similar but none I am aware of actually give a specific date by which you must withdraw. You can clearly wait until you know the financial aid being offered by the ED school because an aid package that your parents cannot financially live with is a reason for being allowed to back out of an ED decision. Usually colleges require you to respond by sometime in Jan to your mid-Dec ED decision and likely you do not have to rush to withdraw other apps but should do so by time you make that Jan response. In your case you just want to know if UChicago or UIUC accepts you EA, mainly I assume for the ego trip, and you can undoubtedly do that when you are talking only about a few days difference just depending on each school’s mid-Dec notification date.
