I need some advice. I'm about finished with my first semester at Villanova, and I'd like to transfer to Georgetown, UVA, and (maybe in my dreams) Penn.

I'm doing really well here...I'm taking 19 credits with a pretty rigorous courseload and I'd be shocked if I got anything below a 3.8. I'm in the Honors Program, I do community service, I'm in FOCUS christian fellowship, on the club ultimate team, and my chem prof invited me to do research with her this summer.

But my HS stuff is not exactly GTown/UVA/Penn worthy. I got a 3.6 weighted with a 1470(M+V)/2200(M+V+W) and decent but nothing noteworthy extracurriculars. Basically, a BWRK.

If I apply this March (as a Sophomore, Fall transfer) do I stand a chance? Or should I keep March of '10 in mind as a potential Junior, fall transfer? Keep in mind that I'd like to get settled in my new school sooner rather than later.

Why do you want to transfer if you're doing so well?

I would say wait and apply for junior standing, if you must transfer. If you transfer now, high school will be equally as important as college, if not more. Later on, it won't matter so much. Penn might still care about high school too much for you to even get in then, unless you get some awesome EC's or something. Although if you have the money to through around for application fees now, knowing that you might not get in and might have to apply again next year, I suppose it couldn't hurt...

I agree with yourfire, wait until next year. Your H.S stats are going to come into play, and if you are not as confident about them, I would seriously hold off. You don't want an additional headache your second semester, when you can be focusing on THIS year to make yourself even stronger for your dream schools NEXT year. Good luck!!

would it even be worth applying this year? because id really like to get settled into my one school as soon as possible, and settle into a group asap

and your high school data (except maybe GPA) is pretty much up to par with the universities you mentioned anyways!

yes, exactly! your hs stats are actually very good, and your college stats (including ec's) are that much better. go for it, you have nothing to lose!

i'm very happy with life here, and basketball season is off the chain, but i want diversity. i went to a very homogeneous high school, and i was looking forward living with and meeting random people with really cool stories. for instance, i'm very passionate about pharmacy. i worked behind the counter at a pharmacy that specialized with HIV/AIDS treatment during high school, and was very frustrated to see that we had the drugs that people needed in the back room, but we couldn't give them out because they didn't have proper coverage. it is so painfully ironic that the people that need medicine the most are often the very people that can't afford these drugs. i'd like to find a way to bridge this gap. that's why i'm a chemistry major, and i don't think that story would be very obvious if you met me for the first time. i want to meet other people like that.

i've basically decided that i'm going to apply this year, and if i don't get in, c'est la vie. i enjoy nova enough that i won't be upset, but i'd like to be at gtown/uva enough that i'd jump for joy.

do you think I would have a chance at 'Nova with a 3.9gpa with 100 credits completed from PA state school after my junior year. I want to major in business. My SAT scores were terrible but those were 4 years ago, how much would this count for?
