Due to the fact that percentiles are coming out next year for the SAT, will colleges (esp Princeton) calculate quartiles of writing scores to compare applicants' scores to? I hope that the writing score will still be considered more of an SAT II score than 1/3 of the SAT I. At least for ED, I don't think that there will be enough data for all of the applicants to form these ranges, but I'm not sure. I hope that the SAT Writing section won't hold some weight for a while, but maybe I'm just hoping. Does anyone have any thoughts/knowledge on this subject? Most adcoms say that they consider all of the SAT parts, but I'm almost positive that Writing isn't as important as CR or Math. Will this trend continue one more year?

from my talk with the adcoms at pton, they will consider the total score of the 3 sections together from the first 3 sittings you have for the SAT =)

also, they won't interpret it as such a big part of your apps, they all know that it's new this yr and will put more weight, at least this particular adcom, on ECs, gpa, and other stuff =)

Right, but what about next year? I've heard that Pton has a 1-5 scale for grades, ECs, etc....so will the writing score be factored into this rough scale as an equal grade as math/CR? Or will it be considered less important?

urr, the only reasons many colleges don't put as much emphasis on writing this year, is cause they don't have percentiles and stuff. by next year, however, they should have the stats, and writing should be considered 1/3 of the SAT I's. Or else collegeboard = pwned.

jtc, quit freaking out....writing is very much considered

Cornell is not even going to look at the Essay they say. But that is Cornell, not Princeton. Still, I don't recall a space for Writing and the Essay under the SAT scores block on this year's Princeton Application.

in that case, are you sure you applied to princeton?

I did apply to Princeton. I don't remember every single blank on the application though. Maybe it did have one... I don't recall...
