How Specific Do I Have to Be on my College Application?

I played varsity basketball during 9th and 10th grade, but I am not playing in 11th and 12th. I plan to switch to a different sport, but do I have to mention that I quit basketball for two years? Or can I just say I’ve played on the varsity basketball team. I’m concerned that playing a new sport will hurt my chances in admissions.

The colleges usually want to see the particular years you were engaged in the extracurricular activities.

Thanks!

You can check two boxes - 9th & 10th - and leave the two others blank for your EC.

When it’s time for you to list your activities, it should be like this:

Varsity Basketball: 9, 10
Sport X: 11, 12
NHS: 11, 12

etc.

If you’re asking if it’s OK to fudge and lie? well, You already know the answer to that.
