Quick question:

How specific should we be on our ECs? For example, if I code and have apps on the App Store, should I simply say I have 3 apps on the App Store or should I give the names of the apps as well? Should I also tell them how many times it has been downloaded (if it's a respectable number)?

Or if you have a Youtube channel (I don't) that you wouldn't be ashamed of an Adcom seeing, should you give the name or just say you do the activity and give the views/sub number (if it's a respectable number)?

And to make a long post even longer: If you started your own nonprofit (I haven't), would one give the name of that organization?

Thanks!!

usually yes, but it depends. I don’t think they would care about the channel name, but the last one (the nonprofit) would be important. I wouldn’t list the number of times they’ve been downloaded though, but thats just my person opinion.

There are two parts to reporting your ECs – one is making them fit within the parameters of your college application standard forms, and the second is through a custom individualized “resume”. The Common Application, for example, is a pain in the butt when it comes to putting custom info into their standard EC template - but they also offer an “Additional Info” section, and here you might be able to put some bullet points that give greater details about the names of your apps, etc.

I would assume that giving the download/view amount would look good to colleges. Correct me if I’m wrong though!

The EC section in CommonApp has very limited space for description. If you want to put in more details on something you feel so proud of, do use the space in Additional Information at the end after the essays.
