How Spent Summer Responses

Princeton and NYU pretty much ask the same thing about how I spent my last two summers. What I was wondering is how do I go about answering this in 500 characters or less? I haven't done much. Last year I read a lot and this year I just worked and volunteered a bit. How do I make this more interesting?

It sounds like a straightforward question–give them a straightforward answer. Elaborate. What did you read? Why did you read those books? What did you think of those books? Where did you work? Did you find it enjoyable? Would you do that work again? Where did you volunteer, and what did you do? There’s plenty to talk about.

Here are some things to think about:
Something you learnt from your experiences
The you before and after summer
You favourite activity and why it means so much to you
How you overcame your greatest fear/peeve
Circumstances leading into summer and how you resolved them/ saw them in a different light
Road trips/Friend visits?
Concerts/Performances?
Or you could come up with a common theme and use a few anedotes from different events during the summer.
I hope this helps!

Great tips! Thanks you guys!
